The opportunity to … have great artistic experiences

I spent around nine years training at Woodlawn Arts Academy through music lessons and junior musical productions. I couldn’t be more grateful that I had the opportunity to perform and have great artistic experiences at such a young age. I was given the wonderful chance to attend Interlochen Center for the Arts for my last three years of high school. This fall I will be continuing my artistic career at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I can’t wait to bring the knowledge and teaching instilled in me at WAA to my major of Music Therapy

My courage, commitment, passion and tenacity were deepened

What Woodlawn gave me, at a very young age, was the belief that I could truly accomplish anything if I was willing to put in the work. My courage, commitment, passion and tenacity were deepened there by instructors who pushed me beyond my comfort zone and were always there with unwavering support. After graduating from Chicago Academy for the Arts, I moved to San Francisco to begin my professional dance career with Alonzo King LINES Ballet, then made the decision to return to Chicago to study mass communications. I am so grateful to Woodlawn for being my second home through

I am so grateful that I had the chance to learn and grow at Woodlawn

My time at Woodlawn Arts Academy benefitted me in so many ways, and these lessons still influence me today. Having the opportunity to work under incredibly talented theatre and music instructors who truly care about their students helped me grow in my talent, my confidence, and in strong relationships that remain in my life. Throughout my time in choirs and theatrical productions at Luther College, I have been reminded of the techniques and tips that my teachers at Woodlawn offered to me, and it’s safe to say I would not be in these ensembles if it wasn’t for WAA and

What I learned at WAA followed me … well into high school

In eighth grade I took part in a Woodlawn class where I was able to learn about different mediums and techniques. I learned to develop a critical eye and gained a better understanding of the art world. What I learned at WAA followed me not just through high school, but well into college. I recently graduated from Ringling College of Art & Design, one the country’s leading art colleges. There I joined professional workshops with companies like Disney Creative Group and Abercrombie & Fitch. I am now building a freelance network to continue growing my creative portfolio. Her dream of becoming a professional dancer

We are very grateful for the financial assistance programs for many reasons. The most important reason is that it enables my daughter to work on her dream of becoming a professional dancer. With only one income in our household, the financial assistance program helps us stretch our budget so that she can be involved in activities we would not otherwise be able to afford. Alicia B. 2016

So valuable to the children in our community

We were able to use a scholarship towards Pre K for our older son last year. We think the program is so valuable to the children in our community. We hope to be able to have our younger son attend preschool in the fall at Woodlawn. The teacher and facilities are amazing. Sarah & Jarrod J. 2016

Opportunity to introduce a passion

Woodlawn has been a great experience for my children. My daughters have been able to dance and my sons have been able to play guitar. Not only has this been a learning opportunity for the kids, but a teaching experience for them as well. They have been able to teach me what they know. The financial assistance has given me this opportunity to introduce a passion that I’ve wanted in my own life. Much appreciated! Sherry C. 2017

We are able to put Emmaliah into dance classes that we could not otherwise afford. We care so much about the arts and local culture, and we are so thankful that such a program exists so mom and dad can raise them the way we feel is best. Thank you! Crystal C. 2017

They have really bonded over shared experiences

My daughter and younger son have participated in art and theatre programs for the last few years together. They have really bonded over shared experiences! My daughter has learned to process her emotions through her art and my son has learned to not to be afraid to speak in front of people. THANK YOU! Laurainne H. 2017
