WAA Building

The Academy Building

Home to Woodlawn Preschool Academy of the Arts & Woodlawn Dance Academy

The building that currently houses Woodlawn Arts Academy, at 3807 Woodlawn Road in Sterling, was built in the 1950s. It has approximately 20,000 square feet on four levels. The building has been a K-8 school, an alternative school, a child care center and a special education center.

In 2004, the Dillon Foundation purchased the building with the vision of it being an arts center. Today, there are are three wings with 12 classrooms, a lounge and a performance center with a kitchenette.

Woodlawn Arts Academy was built for quality, safety and efficiency, and designed for the pursuit and celebration of the arts. The Academy provides special lighting for optimum visibility when creating visual artwork, soundproof rooms of the highest quality for music lessons, specialized floors in the dance studios to protect dancers’ joints, an environmentally friendly geothermal heating system, the J. Mark Beaty Performance Center for putting on plays and recitals, and much more!

The Farmhouse & Barn

The House
The Barn Building

Next door to our main facility are a Farmhouse and an outbuilding we call the Barn. These two buildings are a wonderful addition to our campus, and offer us additional space for programming, retreats and artist-in-residence opportunities. The Farmhouse offers a full kitchen, two sitting rooms, four upstairs bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with a front and back porch. The Barn has an open area great for classes, meetings and parties, as well as a kitchenette with a refrigerator/freezer and double sink, with windows to the outside of the building.
